How To Get The Lament Destiny 2

Once the first team of Destiny 2 raiders beat the Deep Stone Crypt raid on Nov. 21, a few new pieces of Destiny 2 : Beyond Light content unlocked. One of those new quests is Lost Lament, the quest to get The Lament Exotic sword.

This sword is incredible for boss damage and dealing with Champions, and is a must-have for any serious Destiny raider or Nightfall players. Here's a quick look on how to finish the Lost Lament quest and pick up Banshee-44's lost blade.

Talk to Banshee-44

To start the quest, head to the Tower and talk to Banshee-44. He'll give you the Lost Lament quest and ask you to look into his mysterious past.

Step 1. Collect 3 Dead Exos

To progress The Lament quest, you need to find the bodies of three Dead Exos on Europa. This is one of the collectibles on the destination, and there are nine in total. Thankfully, we only need to grab a handful for the quest.

Here are the three easy Exos to pick up for this quest.

Cadmus Ridge

The Exo in Cadmus Ridge is on the snowy ridge. As soon as you enter the area — coming from Variks — hang left and look for the large snow cliff. Jump up to the top of the bank and you'll see a yellow Exo sitting there.

Interact with it to progress the quest.

Perdition Lost Sector

Turn around after you kill the Perdition Lost Sector boss for this Exo

Go into the Perdition Lost Sector in Cadmus Ridge. The Exo is in the boss room. Run through the Lost Sector like normal and defeat the giant Minotaur at the end. The blue Exo is sitting near a crate on the left side of the Exo arena.

Interact with the blue Exo to progress the quest.

Concealed Void Lost Sector

Go into the Concealed Void Lost Sector in the Asterion Abyss. Like with the Perdition Lost Sector, complete the Concealed Void Lost Sector like normal. When you get to the end, defeat the boss and loot the chest to drop the energy shield. The yellow Exo is sitting next to the round Fallen object on the metal deck.

With the Concealed Void Lost Sector Exo, you should have all three. Time to find a big Exo head.

Step 2. Giant Exo found

Like we said, the giant Exo head is pretty hard to miss

For this part of Lost Lament, you need to find the Giant Exo head in the BrayTech facility. Inside BrayTech — just off of Cadmus Ridge — you'll find an open door out of the big office building on the right of the entryway. If you're having trouble finding it, mark the quest on the map and the game will lead you there.

Follow the path through the army of Vex until you reach the Giant Exo head (it's pretty hard to miss, since it's a Giant Exo head). Activate it and talk to it. It'll give you the next step in The Lament quest.

Step 3. Kill Vex with swords

This is where Lost Lament gets a little tedious. You need to kill 100 Vex with swords and 20 Minotaurs, Hydras, or Cyclopses (also with swords, and only red-bar enemies count).

You could do these kills naturally over time. But that's not why you're here.

The fastest way to get this done is to head into the Perdition Lost Sector in Cadmus Ridge. Kill all the Vex in the first room and go up the stairs into the second. Instead of finishing the Lost Sector, walk back out the front door until you see the game say "Cadmus Ridge." Then walk back in and repeat.

Once you've killed 100 Vex, you should still need Minotaur, Hydra, and Cyclopses kills. This is tedious, but the fastest way to do this is run in, kill the first Minotaur that spawns, walk out, and repeat.

Step 4. Unlock Empire Hunts

If you've been keeping up with Destiny, you'll have already finished this step. But if you're just starting out with Beyond Light, you'll need to unlock Empire Hunts to move forward. Complete Variks' post-campaign questline and do the Dark Priestess Empire Hunt.

Step 5. Exo Challenge

The first Exo challenge had us jumping between fires to stay warm

For this step, you need to complete an Exo Challenge. This is a new activity type in Beyond Light that's reminiscent of the Ascendant Challenge from Forsaken.

If you haven't unlocked the Exo Challenge yet, you need to do Variks' Old Secrets, New Challenges quest. Just go to the marker on your map and you'll start the challenge. When you finish the Exo Challenge, you'll progress Lost Lament and finish Old Secrets, New Challenges.

If you've already unlocked the Exo Challenge prior to Lost Lament, just select the Exo Challenge off the map and do it again.

Step 6. Defeat Vex with Finishers

Like Step 3, this is another tedious farm-fest against the Vex.

Head back into the Perdition Lost Sector off of Cadmus Ridge. Use a weapon like an auto rifle that only does a bit of damage per shot and attack the Vex until you can Finish them. Repeat this process until you've finished around 60 Vex. You should be able to complete this in a run or two of Perdition.

Step 7. Blade pieces found

You'll get the Lost Lament blade piece when the boss retreats the first or second time
Image: Bungie via Polygon

After you Finish all those Vex, you'll need to find some blade pieces in The Glassway Strike.

This sounds like it's going to be some giant mystery, but it isn't. All you need to do here is launch The Glassway from the Europa map and complete it normally. Once the boss is about a third of the way dead, it'll drop the blade pieces.

Note: If you get matchmade into the end of the Strike, after the pieces drop, you'll need to do the Strike again. This happened to us because another player left after getting their blade pieces.

Step 8. Talk to Banshee-44

With the broken sword in hand, head back to Banshee-44. When he sees the blade, some of his memories will start to come back.

After some tinkering, Banshee will give you the sword back (it will sit in your Heavy weapon slot, unusable until you finish the quest).

Step 9. Search the abandoned bunker

Like Step 7. you'd think this would be a mystery. But it isn't. Land on Europa and go to Eventide Ruins. Complete the Bunker E15 Lost Sector and loot the chest to get the Lost Lament blueprints.

Step 10. Reforging the Past

The Clovis AI will reforge the blade for you
Image: Bungie via Polygon

Exit the Bunker E15 Lost Sector and walk over to the Reforging the Past quest flag. Start the mission.

You'll need to grab a tank early on and run through some Vex with it in Cadmus Ridge. Once you've killed enough, the Clovis AI will call for your assistance. Fight through the BrayTech lab, through Creation, and all the way to the giant Exo head.

Once you clear out the Vex, place the broken blade on the pedestal. The Clovis AI will reforge the blade for you. Pick it up, equip it, collect the Heavy ammo from the boxes, and get ready to go to town. Clear out all the Vex using your fancy new stick of RAM Exotic sword and then talk to the Clovis AI.

Step 11. Return to Banshee-44

Head back to Banshee-44 and he'll reveal that he used to be Clovis Bray — something he's just now remembering. He thanks you for rebuilding his old sword and tells you it's yours to keep. Then he suggests he may go visit the giant Exo head himself, just to see what it has to say.

And with that, the Lost Lament quest is over.

The Lament Exotic sword

Futuristic sword? Or latest piece of tech in your new PC?
Image: Bungie via Polygon

The Lament is a complex Exotic. But if you learn how to use it, it offers some of the highest damage in the game. It's especially useful in the second encounter of the Deep Stone Crypt raid.

It's Exotic Perk is Banshee's Wail, which offers an alternative combo that you must execute like this:

  • Hold block to rev the blade
  • While holding block, light attack three times
  • Still holding block, hit heavy attack once you see Banshee's Wail x8 or x9 on your screen

This combo deals massive damage to enemy targets and breaks Champion shields. Lost Lament is so powerful that you'll likely only be able to execute this combo on high health targets, otherwise they'll die before you even slam them.

To help mitigate the danger of using a sword that close to an enemy — especially in difficult activities with Champions — the Revved Consumption perk heals you while you fight.
