How To Get New Clothes In Stardew Valley

One of the most useful artisan goods in Stardew Valley is cloth. This fantastic little bit of fabric is used for a wide variety of purposes, including updating your wardrobe with ease. It's pretty easy to make, too, with a few different methods that are capable of producing it.

Here's how you can get your hands on some cloth, and all the uses for it.

How to Produce Cloth

Getting your hands on some cloth isn't too difficult in Stardew Valley. The most reliable way is to just make it yourself by placing some wool into a loom, where it will spin it into cloth in four in-game hours. Wool is found in two main ways: from sheep or rabbits. Typically, an adult sheep that is fed and happy will produce a coat that can be sheared within three days. You'll need to have upgraded a barn to a Deluxe Barn to buy sheep from Marnie's ranch. Shears are also purchased from Marnie, and you'll need this tool to do the shearing.

If you have a sheep with high enough friendship (4.5 hearts), it'll reduce its coat-production day by one, meaning you can shear it every other day. The Shepherd Profession also reduces the number of days by one. This means if you have friendly enough sheep and the Shepherd Profession, you can shear your sheep every day.

Rabbits will also produce wool, albeit less frequently. If you have upgraded to a Deluxe Coop, you'll be able to buy rabbits from Marnie. They produce wool every four days but don't need to be sheared.

Wool of higher quality has a chance to produce more cloth when placed in a loom. Silver-quality wool has a 10% chance to produce two cloth. Gold gives a 25% chance, and iridium is a nice 50% chance to double-produce.

There are a few other ways to get your hands on some cloth, too, though they're less reliable. You can get some cloth by tossing a bit of soggy newspaper into a recycling machine, Emily will send you some in the mail at random, and mummies can drop them when defeated. Additionally, on Wednesdays, the Desert Trader will offer cloth in trade for three aquamarines.

Tailoring

Once you obtain your first bit of cloth (through any method), Emily will appear the next day and tell you that you can use her sewing machine. By bringing cloth and various items to the sewing machine, you can produce new shirts, pants, shorts, skirts, and hats or you can change the color of existing garments. You can also transfer the stats of shoes and boots to others.

The tailoring system was added in Stardew Valley's 1.4 update and it significantly expands your wardrobe possibilities. The new 1.5 update also added more garments for the fashion-conscious.

To create new clothing, you'll need various items (check online for the list of hundreds of different garments) and a bolt of cloth. Head to Emily's sewing machine inside her house and boot it up. Place some cloth over the feed where you see the cloth icon, and the item you're creating clothing from over the spool icon. Press the power button and the machine will create a new garment for you.

Using the sewing machine and dye pots at Emily's will also allow you to change the color of clothing, though this typically does not require the use of cloth.

Other Uses

While cloth's main use is in tailoring, it has other functions in Stardew Valley as well. First and foremost, it can be sold for a decent price. At the base price, it'll net you a nice 470g. If you have the Rancher Profession, that bumps up to 564g, and if you have the Artisan Profession, you'll be making 658g.

You can also give cloth as a gift. Emily has it as one of her loved gifts, while most other villagers like receiving it. Jas, Sebastian, and Vincent hate receiving it, though, so don't give it to them!

If you like fishing, you'll be able to make a Dressed Spinner from a bolt of cloth and two iron bars. This lure increases the bite-rate when fishing, and you'll get the recipe for it at fishing level 8.

If you're looking to build a mill on your farm, you'll need some cloth. Robin will build you a mill if you provide her 2,500g, 50 stone, 150 wood, and four bolts of cloth.

Finally, the Artisan Bundle at the Community Center is one of the bundles that allow you to choose which items to donate. You'll need to donate six from the list of options, one of which is cloth.

That's everything you need to know about Cloth in Stardew Valley! If this guide helped you at all, be sure to let us know in the comments below. As well, share it around so it can help others.
